Sports Marketing Veterans will focus on Brand Development and Investment Strategy
March 15, 2017, Rye, NY: The World Cycling League has engaged Cadence Solution Partners (CSP) and its principals, Jeffrey Doyle and Shergul Arshad, to attract investors and lead WCL’s marketing effort to build awareness for the World Cycling League® and TeamTrak® brands. The effort will lead to WCL’s Season One launch in fourth quarter 2018 and will build upon the innovative TeamTrak format introduced at WCL’s pilot event held at the VELO Sports Center in Los Angeles last March.
Season One will consist of twelve three day TeamTrak tournaments held between October 2018 and March 2019 at selected indoor velodromes around the world. Each Tournament will feature six teams of eight cyclists (4 men and 4 women) competing in a two hour program of twelve head to head races in a made-for-video format designed to showcase the excitement and explosiveness of track racing. All tournaments will be livestreamed and will feature unprecedented technology designed to engage viewers, provide home teams to follow and build new interest in the sport.
Jeff Doyle, who leads the CSP team, is a twenty year veteran of high profile campaigns for some of the biggest brands in sports and entertainment including Citibank, Mastercard, Rolex, Audi, VW and Xerox; sports properties including the NFL, MLB, the USTA, PGA Tour and NBA; and media partners including Time, the Wall Street Journal, NBC Sports and ESPN among others. Doyle’s business partner, Shergul Arshad, has a track record of closing large scale digital, technology, media and investor deals with some of the world’s biggest soccer teams including developing and monetizing significant social media, digital licensing and ecommerce initiatives for AS Roma, one of the world’s most successful soccer franchises. He was also the founder and CEO Mondogoal, at one point the world’s leading Daily Fantasy Soccer site.
“We are thrilled to have Jeff and Shergul on board to lead the next phase of the WCL’s development,” said David Chauner, CEO of the World Cycling League. “With an eighteen month lead time to Season One, CSP has helped us map out and deliver a strategy to build brand recognition that will grow audience and build anticipation for our official launch in fourth quarter 2018.” According to Chauner, development initiatives include sponsorship and promotion of WCL’s PA Lightning team as they compete in a variety of track and road cycling events, selecting qualifying events and conducting WCL’s first rider draft, and following construction progress of the National Velodrome and Events Center, WCL’s headquarters indoor velodrome and production center in Reading, Pennsylvania.
“The opportunity to redefine and package track cycling for new audiences is very exciting,” said Jeff Doyle, who puts himself among the 1.1 billion active cyclists worldwide. “Shergul and I have taken a close look at this property and envision a huge upside for investors and sponsors. Rarely does one find a sport with such universal appeal that does not have a well-defined, sustainable league structure. The World Cycling League is in the right place at the right time.”
The World Cycling League is the first independently owned and funded indoor track cycling league. Financed by individual investors, the WCL partnered with Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) to conduct WCL’s pilot event at AEG’s VELO Sports Center. The event was sanctioned by USA Cycling, the official governing body of cycling in the United States. World Cycling League, LLC owns the registered trademarks World Cycling League® and TeamTrak®.
